A few days ago my friend, Misty, asked what happened to my Monday Morning Accountability posts. Hmm, what happened? Well, as I have done may times in the past - I fel flat on my face, sad ain’t it?

But, because I am a feisty red-head… I don’t stay own very long!

Let me back up a minute and try to explain things.

Kaitie, Mandy and Jake were all summer babies, so buy the time spring/summer came around, they were all on solid food and starting to come off breastmilk and my body had kind of bounced back into shape. Not so with Emma. Having a baby in December, kind of messed my up a bit. Here it was getting warm and I needed to start doing something about my body. Usually I would start some crazy workout and/or some funky eating program. Not an option this time… and I started freaking out. I knew I had to do something, but I could do anything “radical” like I normally would. So, I starting freaking out and well, my head just wasn’t in the game.

Fast forward a few weeks. Marc and I have spent a great deal talking about getting older and what our life is going to look like. We came to a sad realization, that we are heading down a really bad road. A road filled with medications, messed up hips, no energy and more than likely an early death. Man - that is scary! We decided that we don’t do not want to grow old that way. I want to be that fiesty grandma! Not the oxygen carring/walker need’n grandma - yuck! Who want’s that?

I think it finally sunk in… you only get one chance. So - instead of all the fads and craziness that we are used to, we are going to try and do it the right way! As funny as that sounds, it is huge for us!

We started 10 days ago. We both joined BiggestLoser.com and are kind of following that program. Lots of cardio, weights and watching our calories. As of last Friday I was down 4.6lbs and Marc was down 1.5 Slow and steady this time!!!!

I think I actually lost too much and was having a small issue with my milk supply. but, I bumped up my calories for this week and hopefully I will still lose!If you are interested, I will do my accountability posts again, just let me know! I don’t want to bore ya’ll!

Again, for those of you without little ones…. sorry :) I’ll try to post some pictures to make up for it! But, I have to help a friend in need! :))

Ok, Andrea - here goes:
Feeding schedule:
5-6 months: Just one meal a day, usually lunchtime. Cereal and, once they have been introduced, an additional food mixed in (avocado, banana or sweet potato)
6-7 months: 2 - 3 meals a day, all depending on how hungry they seem to be.
7 months on: 3 meals

Serving per meal - each “serving” of baby food is 1oz.
5-6 months: 1 serving/meal
6-7 months: 2 servings/meal
7 months on: 3 servings/meal
Remember that they should still be nursing some with each meal and in between too! At least 5 times a day till they are about 9 months, then it may start decreasing a bit. But, I never worry about that. Just remember that until they are 1 year, they should still be getting the bulk of their nutrients from breastmilk or formula. Some people say you can do less, but… well, just my opinion!

Now the “How To’s” or recipes
For the homemade rice cereal: Place 1/4c uncooked brown rice into the blender and bled until it is a fine powder, about 2 minutes or so for a standard blender. Whisk the powdered rice into 1c boiling water, cover and cook on low heat for about 10 minutes. Stir frequently so it doesn’t burn or clump. This makes 2-3 servings. Make sure to add breastmilk for the right consistency. I put the leftovers into little containers and just nuke it for a few seconds when we are ready to use it.

I make oatmeal in the same way.

Let me know when you guy are ready to move on from the cereal and bananas and I will add more recipes. I hope this helps!

Anyone watch this? It is by far my favorite TV show ever! I so love it!!!! After a break for a few weeks (thank you striking Hollywood writers :P) It was back on last night with a fantastic episode!I found this today and it just made me giggle - even if you don’t watch the show, I hope it makes you laugh a little!

April 24th, 2008

Alright - for those of you that don’t have little ones that are gearing up for or who have just started babyfood… sorry, this post may not be very interesting for you. I have a friend - Andrea, that lives overseas and has just started her little one, Aashini, on solids. She is wondering what kind of path to follow when introducing foods and I told her I would help her out, so here goes!

I try to wait till about 5 months before starting food - no reason really - just kind of how it happens. Emma got her first taste off food last week - but I haven’t offered it again. It will be sporadic till she hits 6 months and then we will start offering it daily.

We start off by offering whole grain rice cereal. I buy Earth’s Best, it’s whole grain and organic. After the first week or so of the cereal we then offer banana or avacado. Both are great second foods and are so easy to prepare! Just get a nice ripe piece, mash it up, mix in a little breasmilk and voila - babyfood!

The third food introduced is sweet potato. All my kids have just loved sweet potato and like banana and avacado it real easy. Just cook it up, let it cool, scoop it out, mash, add milk and eat up!

We give them one solid feeding a day, usually around lunch. Changing up the food offered every few days. We keep this up till they are 6 months - then the fun begins!
Here is the schedule we use to add foods:

6 months: homemade brown rice cereal, homemade oatmeal, winter squash, papaya, mango and pears.
7 months: hard boiled egg yolk, carrots, green beans, summer squash, white potatoes, peaches, cottage cheese and tofu
8 months: apricot, apple, cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, plums, broccoli, okra, wheat germ, seeds, hard cheeses
9 months: brussels sprouts, cauliflower, spinach, beets, kale, eggplant, rutabaga, cooked onion, turnips, pineapple, beans
10 months: pasta, bulgur

At nine months we start mixing a cereal with beans to make a porridge. Remember, this is all assuming you have no food allergies in your family.

We love to mix and match stuff too and come up with some really yummy recipes. One of our favorite things to do is mix up different fruit combos , like rice (or oats) with apple, banana, peach and mango. All of our kids devoured it!!

I hope this helps a bit. Let me know if you need any directions on how to make anything. I have a lot of recipes and ideas :)

April 22nd, 2008

Crazy day yesterday! We got a lot of stuff done, but it was go - go - go all day.

So, last week we decided to put Jake in a Tae Kwon Do class… with a heavy heart. As you know, Jake does not have the best track record when it comes to classes. So, we dropped him off and I spoke briefly with his instructor. I told him that Jake has some behavior type issues that we control with diet and right away the guy kind of smiled and nodded and said “That’s ok, I undersatnd” hmmm, no look of concern, this could be a good thing! I also told him that he lacks any kind of attention span and I don’t mid him being disciplined. “Great!” he says. He then explains to me that he treats TKD as a discipline and will make the kids sit out, get in the push up position, etc if they act up! Oh JOY! This may just work I am telling myself!!! Then he asks Jake how old he is “4″ Jake replies “4, Sir” The instructor tell Jake. Oh - big grins from Mommy!!!

So - the verdict: Jake made it through class. He did have to sit out some, but the instructor said he was great about 40% of the class - intermittently. He has no problem working with him! OH HAPPY DAY!!!! Someone, other than Marc and I, that “gets” Jake :)

The funny thing was after class, we were discussing things with the instructor and he said he was amazed at how smart Jake is. He said at one point he told the kids to sit down with their legs crossed and Jake sat with his legs out in front of him. When the teacher called him on that Jake rationalized, or tried to, by saying that we are in America and we don’t have to sit like that. WHAT??? What a butthead!

The other thing was that the instructor said, at one point in our conversation, that he felt Jake could go either way. I started laughing and explained to him that we have always said Jake will do one of two things: Save the world or Take over the world. He started laughing and said “Exactly! Thats what I was going to say, but I didn’t want to offend you.”

I really hopes this works out and Jacob can have his “thing” I think this will really benefit him!

Bronie from Team Victory has tagged me for a meme… here we go!

The Rules:1. Link your tagger and list these rules on your blog.2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Weird or random facts… oh where, oh where do I begin? LOL!!!

1) I will first start off with one that Bronie listed too… she actually was teasing about “outing” me, so I will do it myself: I have a weird habit of counting the right angles in a room. Windows, doors, shelves - I count them all. I know its some kind of weird psychosis, but hey, we all have our issues right?

2) When I was in Kindergarten, I wanted to be a Nun. Well, I think we all know how that went :P

3) When I was about 9, my friend Michelle and I pretended we had identical friends that were from Australia. We would tell people about them, when they asked to see them, we would run in the house, change shirts and come back outside sporting our Australian accents.

4) Everyday in the seventh grade I would come home from school and watch the movie The Breakfast Club. There was a guy in one of my classes who did the same thing. We would constantly quote the movie to each other. Believe it or not, in high school he turned out really cool… me? not so much LOL!

5) One Summer I did nothing but hang out at my friends house at watch movies on HBO while her parents were at work. Our favorites? The Pirate Movie, Little Darlings, The Blue Lagoon, Urban Cowboy. Let me say that I was about 9 and should not have been watching ANY of these movies.

6) I am scared of what is going to happen to my red hair. Redheads, as they age, their hair fades really bad. I don’t ever want to dye my hair, but I know I probably will at some point.

7) I used to be very anti-plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons… but after 4 kids and varying weights…. a tummy tuck and lifting of “the girls” sounds really nice! :)

Hmmm… so many centered around my childhood. Weird.

OK, I am tagging -Shannon at Shades of Shannon

Andrea at Sgt and Mrs Hub

Lea at Trying Our Best

Haley at Love, Life , Family and Then Some

Misty at All My Little Blessings

hmmm - looks like thats all I could come up with, looks like I need more bloggy friends!

April 16th, 2008

What a great weekend! This was our second year going to the Mother/Daughter Retreat at Camp Peniel, which is located in scenic Marble Falls, Tx!

I will try and guide you through the weekend in pictures :) I hope you enjoy!

We left Friday afternoon, driving to camp with our friends through the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

We checked in and were lucky enough to get put into one of the new cabins! Woo-Hoo! Camping in comfort… what it’s all about.

We had some yummy dinner, sang a few songs and had some ice breaker (ie:silly) games in the athletic field before turing in for the night. Sadly I didn’t get any pictures of this.. but, c’mon! I was trying to play games and eat and stuff with a baby strapped on my chest, you want me to take pictures too? Who do you think I am Wonder Woman?

Saturday morning, we had a yummy breakfast and some praise and worship time before listing to our guest speaker. Then it was free time!!! So, the big question then was what to do?Well, first we chose to visit the horses. Kaitie and Mandy went on a 45 minute trail ride, while Emma and I hung back and relaxed. Miss Tara, who helps run the corral with Cowboy Josh, took Emma on a little ride. She looked so cute!

Then we visited the Archery Range. Both girls did really good! Emma just hung out in the sun on her blanket.

After lunch (oh yes, we ate a lot! It was so good - and I didn’t have to cook it!) The girls went repelling - what a blast! I chose to opt out this year… but, I did do it last year…it’s a long way down!

We also went fishing and canoeing. Didn’t get any pictures of that because Emma was getting a little fussy by this time.

Then it was dinner time. After dinner was the talent show. That was great fun. Kaitie and Mandy wrote their own skit and starred in another one with some friends. Mandy also recited a poem. As for the other girls? Lots of cute stuff and lots and lots of Hannah Montana, lots.

After dinner we went on a hay ride and had a bonfire. Let me tell you there is something so awesome about worshipping God in the dark of night, under a clear sky with tons of stars shining in the sky. Hearing all the Moms and daughters… it gave me chills.

Sunday we had breakfast, worship service and some more free time. During free time, the girls decided to try out the new swing in the gym. It was crazy! They loved it of course!

So… a recap:
We hung out with each other
Got close to some horses
Some horses got close to us
We got a little closer to God

It was a good weekend

April 15th, 2008

You know, I was going to post some pics and info about this weekend, but because of your little smarmy comment… I am going to make you wait till tomorrow.

Well, that and the fact that the camera is in the car and I am too darn lazy to mess with it right now! :)

Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow…. :P

April 11th, 2008
