I’m not big on “ME” time.

Let me rephrase that - I love ME time, but I don’t really see the need for it often or in big chunks. Instead I prefer little snips of time. A quick trip to the store by myself usually does wonders!

Well, last Saturday, I was feeling a little crazy and wanted some of that ME time.

Marc had been to McDonalds a little earlier and had ordered an extra chicken sandwich.

The kids were all occupied, playing and watching a movie… I saw an opportunity!

I escaped to the bathroom with the sandwich and the laptop. I jumped into a bubblebath, ate my chicken sandwich and watched a little Netflix.

Ahhhhhh - bliss. Weird, but wonderful bliss.

That’s how I do “ME” time. What about you? What’s your ME time look like? What’s the weirdest way you’ve relaxed?

I was in bed with Luke. He had just finished nursing when Marc walked in and grabbed the laptop to capture a few pictures.

Cute shot of Mommy and Luke

Then he spit up a little…

Oh boy… then he did this

And this…

Yeah - he fits right in around here!

Wednesday, against my better judgement, I loaded up all the kids and Joey (my little brother) and took a little day trip down to Galveston to visit a really neat place called Moody Gardens.

I had not been feeling great the previous few days and my energy level leaves a lot to be desired. I was nervous that I would crash about halfway through the day and the kids would be disappointed. But, praise God, I hung in there :)

We visited the aquarium, the rainforest, saw an Imax movie about sharks, visited an interactive display all about bones, ate lunch, saw some life size animatronic dinosaurs, the kids went on a movie ride about dinosaurs and we finished the day by visiting the splash pad :) It was fun!!! And most importantly almost all indoors, which means… air conditioning, my friend :)

All the kids were perfect! Having a great time and being courteous and well mannered. OK.. who am I kidding? The girls are almost all this way and Emma… she still has that baby thing to fall back on if she gets in a mood. I’m talking about that ball of testosterone filled craziness that is my son. And he was perfect! And I was happy!

Perfect that is until we got to the splash pad. At the splash pad area that had two water slides for the kids. Not big or crazy or fast, but fun never the less. Jake was having a great time playing with all the kids and taking his turn at the water slides.

I was sitting on this little wall, in the shade, soaking my feet a bit and watching the kids run around and play. Then, a lifeguard came up to me and asked if the boy in the blue shorts was my son. Yep, he’s mine.

I was preparing myself for the worst. But then she told me the funniest thing! Oh, he still got in trouble, but it was so funny!

It seems that my little man walked up to the line of kids and the life guard at the top of the water slides and loudly announced for all to hear “I am impatient, so I am just going to go ahead and go first.” Then he hopped up to the front of the line and took his turn.

My question is: Is it possible to be rude and polite in the same sentence?

I am not one to do the email/facebook question thingies. Not sure why. I love to read them and enjoy seeing who responds, but I just never take the time to sit down and do them.

There is one I saw the other day on facebook that I just had to check out. The results were hilarious!

Here’s the gist: Go to Google and type in your first name and likes to in parentheses like so “Alicia likes to” and post the top results!

Here are some of my favorites:
1) Alicia likes to fight evil (well, my alter-ego “SuperAlicia” does!)
2) Alicia likes to spin (no, I do not. I hate to spin.)
3) Alicia likes to party (once upon a time)
4) Alicia likes to hike and backpack
5) Alicia likes to dance (as long as no one is watching!)

Even funnier was when I typed in “Jacob likes to” Heres what came up for that!

1)Jacob likes to play with guns
2) Jacob likes to help me
3) Jacob likes to move
4) Jacob likes to dance
5) Jacob likes to point
6) Jacob likes to play outside and run around
7) Jacob likes to eat hamburgers and spaghetti.

Yep, that about sums up my little boy

Give it a shot! Tell me what Google says YOU like to do!

February 23rd, 2009

Its Monday and believe it or not I am semi-happy about that. Why? Its all about getting back on track. We have been kind of fumbling around in the dark here the last few weeks and I am ready to get back on track and get some stuff done!

Lots to talk about this morning - nothing too in depth or really even interesting, just a bunch of stuff floating around in my head.

Watching my dogs “do their outside thing” can be very interesting. (Great topic to start off with right?) So, I am waiting for them to finish to let them back in when I see Buster walk over to a tree and pee on it. Kaya comes running over and pees over Busters “area” then Buster circles around the tree behind where Kaya is and pees over where he just went - kind of remarking. It was funny - they obviously have issues (as do I … talking about my dogs peeing)

Ok.. moving on.

Hitting the gym this morning was quite the chore. After not going for almost 3 weeks it was so hard to drag myself out the door! I got up in time and puttered around for almost an hour. I was trying so hard to justify not going. I am so glad that I ignore myself! It was a great workout and I was so happy to be back!!! I took it a little easier today than normal, doing only 2 sets per circuit verses my normal 3. Getting my food back under control will be my main focus the rest o the week. I have been getting progressively sloppier as I have been getting over being sick. The scale will probably reflect that this week which makes me a little sad - but its all about accountability… I know what I did and should not be surprised at the results.

Have I mentioned before how weird my kids can be sometimes? Kaitie and Mandy have been cracking me up with their choice of entertainment. First off - they begged me to put Bon Jovi - “Living on a Prayer” on their iPod. I think thats funny. Secondly they watched a movie this week that really made me laugh, just because they enjoyed it so much! It was “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer” starring Myrna Loy, Carry Grant and a teenaged Shirley Temple. And dont get me started on their obsession with Animal Planet.

Oscars - did you watch? What did you think? I loved it! It was very well put together and I really liked how they had some past winners present the acting awards. I could have done without Sean Penn. But then again… I don’t think I have ever liked that butt head. Didn’t really care for the musical montage either… little weird. But I LOVED the opening! Who new Anne Hathaway could belt it out like that?

Jake lost his first tooth Saturday night. Kind of early don’t you think? I forget when the girls lost their first tooth, but I really thought it was much later. He was so happy about it! Sadly the tooth fairy forgot to come - and now that I am thinking about it… I hope he She remembered last night.

Last thing for now. Emma has (finally) started walking. She had been taking a few steps here and there and then last week she decided to get mobile! She is so proud of herself too! Sometimes after she takes 5 or so steps, she gets this big smile and her face and starts laughing - then she loses her balance… it pretty funny. Her favorite thing to do right now is to go across the room and pick something up and bring it to you. What a little helper!

I will (hopefully) be back on a little later to get my Monday Meal Plan up :)

January 13th, 2009

Someday soon I will post something relevant and meaningful. You know, something of actual importance like… how the girl did in their last gymnastics meet of the season, an introduction to our cat, how the diet/exercise thing is going, how school is going, the fact that we may start repairs on our house soon, you know… stuff like that.

I could write about all that stuff now, but really, I just don’t feel like it.

Instead I leave you with this:

At least that is the way it felt Saturday!

Kaitie and Mandy had to be at the gym at 9 and I thought, since I was going to be out… I might as well swing by the grocery store and pick up a few things that I needed.

The problems started as I was driving down the freeway on my way to the store. I was behind an SUV when suddenly I see a had extended out the passengers window and dump a huge cup of soda out the window! Nothings says “Its going to be a great day!” more than a soda car wash at 60 mph.

Next I had to dodge a car that cut me off so bad! I was making a left turn into the parking lot as he came across 5 lanes of traffic, form the other side of the street to pull in before me. He almost didn’t make it, but I slammed on my brakes in time.

Thankfully the store wasn’t too crowded, so that went well. However, as I was getting into my car I noticed that some lovely, thoughtful person decided to adjust my side view mirror. A big adjustment too, as in in is hanging by wires cause they broke the darn things right off!

So… I am driving down the road and all I can hear is “bump, bump, bump” as my mirror is bumping along hitting the side of my van every few seconds.

As soon as the girls get home from practice we hurry to the store for some clothes. We were going to The Nutcracker that night and they had nothing to wear! We managed to find an outfit for them, matching outfits at that!. Why they wanted to match? I have no idea, they are weird like that.

Of course, we had to go to 4 different stores to find shoes!

And lastly to cap off my exciting Saturday, I will describe to you what I was wearing to The Nutcracker. A cute and smart looking black pinstripe suit with a cranberry tank and a pair of super cute black heels. Oh, wait… that was what I had planned to wear. What I actually wore was that cute and smart looking black pinstripe suit with a cranberry tank and a pair of red crocs.

Yes, I did.

You see, I hate wearing heels around the house and I wear my crocs like slippers or house shoes. I was wearing my crocs as I got the kids ready to go. Marc was even joking about me wearing them - LOL! “No, Of course I wont forget to change my shoes! You big dork!”

Well, we got to the theater with about 10 minutes to spare. I got out of the car and something felt off. I looked down and gasped! I couldn’t believe I had forgotten! I was so embarrassed, but what could I do?

Oh, well… 2008, the year Mommy wore crocs to see The Nutcracker. It could be worse right?

I have a bunch of pictures to post and hopefully I can get them up later today. I have a ton to do! Wrapping (haven’t started!) Baking for us (haven’t started) and perhaps a trip to the mall for a picture with Santa (oh joy).

November 6th, 2008

Sitting at the table last night for dinner, after Marc said prayers, Jake informed us that he wanted to pray also. Here is what he said:

“Lord, thank you for the wonderful day. Please help me control my anger, listen to my parents and be a good boy. And thank you for the growers” (farmers)

Oh, my heart melted.

Later on, somehow Marc said something about cavemen. The girls chided him a bit and Jake said something about God creating the caveman. LOL, this led into a discussion about creation. I know I covered this with him before, so I decided to remind him of what the bible says:

“Jake, remember? On the first day God created……..?”

“CAVEMEN!”

oh, well…. win some, lose some.

October 14th, 2008

Yesterday afternoon, the kids and I were driving home from a very disappointing doctors appointment. I was a little stressed out due to a hungry, fussy, teething baby and an obnoxious 5yr old and it was rush hour. It was a real “Calgon take me away ” moment.

Then we saw it. A car, driving directly in front of us. A maroon HHR to be exact. A maroon HHR decorated with 4 bumper stickers declaring her alliance with the Democrat Party, her intent to vote Obama/Biden ‘08, the need for Texans to vote Democrat and finally, something about “Change.”

Oh boy… Kaitie and Mandy and I read the bumper stickers out loud and snickered a bit, or a lot.

I see the car in front of her start to slow down and I changed lanes, passing her As we pass her, I looked over at her out of curiosity and see her getting a little miffed about traffic and I guess, me passing her. Hmmm… the devious plan sprang into action. (This is so sad)

Well, I was in the “slow” lane, so I adjusted my speed a little, slowing down to the speed limit. Can I help it, that my speed coincided with the car next to me? Can I help it that I effectively set up a little rolling road block for her. Alright, i suppose I could have, but why? It was so much fun. She got really angry. Throwing her hands up in the air. Pointing, yelling, shaking her head and losing her patience.

Is it so wrong that the girls and I were giggling like mad? I know she saw us laughing, which, sadly made it even funnier. It made me feel a lot better, that whole laughter is the best medicine thing.

I did take kind of a high road, just so you don’t think I am a total deviant. She tried to take a little shortcut right before my turn. The road she was on, runs parallel to the one I was on. I could have gunned it and quite possibly caught up with her, getting ahead of her yet again (on a 2 lane no passing road, no less) but, as I told the girls, that although that would have been hilarious, it would have been taking it too far.

So, there you have it, our new game: annoying the Democrat in the car. At least I don’t have to worry about road rage. Those Dems are kind of big into gun control you know:)
